Altius Healthcare & Sandy Lyle
Altius was invited to present this afternoon at a National wrist and hand conference today by Mr Mike Hayton. Our Director Doug Jones was asked to share his experiences of working with one of Britain’s most successful golfers, Sandy Lyle MBE who previously won both the Masters and the Open.
Mr Lyle checked in to our city clinic in Manchester at MIHP a month ago, two weeks before Augusta. Sandy was keen to get an annual health check as well as a swing analysis from our partners at the Golf School Altrincham and our tried and tested performance screen.
Over the course of the morning with us at MIHP Sandy’s heart was scanned, blood tests were performed and whole body composition Dexa scanning was completed. He was deemed very fit and well but our biomechanical analysis of his swing using a K-vest demonstrated showed a lack of spinal angle at the top his back swing.
During our performance screen Sandy’s hip was assessed and reported as weaker and stiffer than the other side.
Sandy was given a hip rehabilitation program and we are very pleased to say that Sandy’s performance at the Masters was much improved and taht he was very pleased with the way he was feeling.
Our plan is for Sandy to revisit us at MIHP on his return from the US to reassess his swing and measure his hip mobility and strength.
Our Director, Doug Jones explained that “working with the technology available at MIHP and the expertise at the Golf school has been invaluable in assessing Sandy’s wellness and golf specific strength and mechanics”.
PGA tour Physio Orlaith Buckley attended the clinic coming over from Ireland to visit us and taking the opportunity to get to know Sandy better and learn more about what we do at MIHP.
If you are a golfer and are interested in coming in for an assessment with us we can tailor a package for you and your budget ranging from a simple physiotherapy screen (£100) for an hour to a day of assessment using all of MIHPs world class facilities as Sandy did. Please do get in contact to find out more.
