Sale Sharks Physiotherapist James Collinge

At the start of the year, Altius Healthcare started to grow their bank of medical practitioners due to the high demand for in-house medical treatments during working hours in the corporate sector. The recent acquisition being Physiotherapist James Collinge who will be based at Bruntwood’s Trafford House, located in Stretford, near Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium.

James is currently working as a senior physiotherapist in professional rugby for the North West region’s Premiership union side Sale Sharks. Here, he treats a range of traumatic, biomechanical and post-surgical injuries and this daily exposure in elite sport performance has enabled him to adapt his skills to the corporate environment. His interest in musculoskeletal rehabilitation has also led to further knowledge in the field of Strength and Conditioning, where he is currently studying for a Master’s degree.

James got into this field of work after initially completing an undergraduate degree in Sports Rehabilitation, then going on to complete a Master’s degree in Physiotherapy from Leeds Beckett University.

Before his recent move to Manchester from across the Pennines in Leeds, James remained in Yorkshire and gained employment working in professional sport; in particular Rugby League with Leeds Rhinos and in Football with Leeds United. Further to this he worked in private practice, managing a variety of recreational and work related injuries using a range of manual and rehabilitative techniques.

James will be working alongside other Altius Healthcare medical practitioners, where they will be delivering a variety of solutions. His involvement in the #AltiusHCSitStrong programme is to be an advocate to office workers, enabling them to get out their chairs for regular activity along with beneficial stretches. This is to counteract the harmful short and long-term health implications of prolonged sitting impacting on the human body.

These range from a variety of exercise classes range from Pilates, Yoga, Circuit Training, Strength & Conditioning around 45 minute sessions as well as physiotherapy, sports massage and injury rehabilitation from thirty minute to one hour sessions.
